An extension project entitled “Webinar on Developing and Designing Learning Modules for Distance Learners” was held virtually on December 18, 2021.

Mrs. Evelyn L. Mendoza, the Head Teacher III of the Speaker Eugenio Perez National Agricultural School (SEPNAS) who is an expert in the field of developing and designing learning modules provided lecture to this extension activity sponsored by the students of the Doctor of Education Major in Educational Management Class. The objectives of Mendoza’s lecture are to describe the unique features of modules, to discuss the inevitable role of teachers on learning delivery modes, and to develop a module in a particular learning area following the guidelines.

Led by Dr. Luzviminda Ramos, she welcome the participants. She said that amidst the worldwide pandemic caused by the COVID-19, the Department of Education (DepEd) came up with a new strategy in lined with the new normal setting of education called distance learning. At this set up, students are not required to attend school physically, but learning continues with the usage of the different learning delivery modalities. Ramos enumerate the three types of distance learning:

1) Modular Distance Learning (MDL);

2) Online Distance Learning (ODL); and

3) TV/Radio-Based Instruction.

Mrs. Evelyn L. Mendoza discusses the objectives of her lecture.

Participants from different regions actively participate virtually via MS Teams and FB Live.

Dr. Rosario DL. Valencerina, the Executive Director of PSU SAS, said that as a learning delivery modality in the form of individualized instruction, learners learn through self-learning modules in print or digital format as applicable to students. This learning opportunity can be ensured with the guidance of parents or family members as learning facilitator.

The modules include sections on motivation and assessment that serve as a complete guide of both teachers’ and students’ desired competencies. The learners’ progress will be monitored by the teachers through home visits while complying to the IATF protocols, and feedback mechanisms, and guide those who need special attention.

There were 87 participants who attentively listened to the lecture. Such webinar was attended by several groups in the educational system not just from the province of Pangasinan, but also from different regions such as from the Region I, III and VI, the National Capital Region and Cordillera Administrative Region. There were also attendees who came from China.

PSU launches Mental Health Support Page

The PSU Mental Health Support Service created a Facebook page to disseminate their plan to help the PSU community with their mental health concerns, especially in crises.

Since its launch up to the quarantine course, several callers had addressed their concerns, mostly students and a few faculty members.

According to the Admission and Guidance Center, the office that holds the University’s Mental Health Support Service, the client may use any mode of communication they prefer and respond. The office offers e-counseling and free therapy, especially to those who suffer  from anxiety attacks, insomnia, and family problems.

Ms. Danielle Madero, a registered psychometrician and guidance counselor of PSU, suggested doing journaling to be productive. “Make it a habit to write. Write your feelings. Takedown what you want to do today and the next day, what you want to have,” she suggested.

MENTAL HEALTH IS ALSO WEALTH. PSU operates on social media to reach out for people with mental health concerns.

Ms. Modero added:“Take a moment out of silence. Internalize every morning after you wake up and every night before you go to sleep. It’s like an insight into journaling.

The office resumes its service up to the present and is open to all PSUnians.
