The local government unit of Bani, Pangasinan is assisted by the Pangasinan State University throught its BOR-approved extension program “Adopt-a-Municipality Extension Program: Enhancing the Tourism Industry of Bani, Pangasinan”. The first project conducted was the Development of the Tourism Code of Bani, Pangasinan
Promoting local tourism industry, PSU forged a Memorandum of Agreement with LGU-Bani, today, June 15, 2021 at PSU Main Campus. Led by the Research, Extension, and Innovation Division, the MOA underscores the crafting of an enhanced strategic plan to bolster the Municipality’s tourism.
Prior to the signing, previous meetings between the LGU and PSU were conducted. Site visits were also held to determine the scenic spots of Bani including the surrounding areas of the tourism destination of the said municipality.
Part of the agreement includes designing and developing Bani eco-park, conducting training to enhance tourism operations, development of Bani tourism code, partnership in conduct of research and extension services and joint monitoring and evaluation of the conducted projects.
Initial Meetings
A meeting with the Municipal Tourism Office of Bani, Pangasinan was conducted on February 25, 2021. Such meeting was aimed at looking at the status of the tourism sector in the municipality of Bani.
Dr. Potenciano D. Conte, Jr., the Center Head for the Center for Business, Economics and Tourism, at the same time faculty of the Economics Department of PSU Lingayen Campus have conducted a comparative study between the tourism industry in the City of Alaminos and Bani, Pangasinan. The two LGUs have a wide gap in terms of number of tourists visiting their tourism spots on an annual basis. With the help of Mr. Romel Dulay, the Municipal Tourism Officer of Bani, recommendations were identified to enhance the operation of the tourism office which is vital in improving the tourism industry within the municipality.
An online survey was conducted among the residents of Pangasinan through the google survey form. Gathered data was processed to answer the objectives of the study. At the end, the development of a tourism code is strongly recommended to standardize the processes in the operation of the municipal tourism office.
Planning Session
Another meeting was slated on March 16, 2021 at the Pasalubong Center, Bani, Pangasinan between the PSU extension team led by Dr. Larry A. Santo, the Research Director and the LGU Bani headed by Mayor Gwen Palafox-Yamamoto to plan the extension activities between the two institutions. Possible tourism-related extension services that can be provided to the LGU by the PSU were discussed during the meeting.
Present in the meeting were Dr. Potenciano D. Conte, Jr. , the Center Head for Business, Economics and Tourism and faculty of PSU SAS and Economics Department, the faculty members of the Architect Department of Urdaneta City campus headed by Chairperson Ar. Manuel Rico and PSU students.
Development of the Tourism Code of the municipality and development of tourism site scale model were proposed during the meeting.
Visit on Tourism Sites
On March 11, 2021 the Research, Extension, Innovation and GAD Division (REIGn) led by Vice President Dr. Paulo V. Cenas visited the tourism spots of Bani, Pangasinan. Together with the Municipal Tourism Officer Mr. Rommel Dulay and his staff, the team was amazed with the natural beauty of the Busay Falls, Olanen Beach, Bangrin MPA and the salt farm.
A draft of the tourism code was finalized by PSU extension team together with the Mr. Rommel Dulay, the Municipal Tourism Office of Bani.
