Pangasinan State University, the Region’s premier state university of choice, underwent another round of accreditation survey visit, particularly for its School for Advanced Studies (SAS) and Sta. Maria Campus.

The SAS program on Master in Management Engineering will undergo its First Survey. On the other hand, Sta. Maria Campus’ programs on Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED -all areas), BS in Agribusiness Management (Extension) and BS in Agricultural Biosystems Engineering (Instruction) were re-visited for the Third (3rd) Survey, Phase 2 while the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (all areas) will undergo Fourth Survey, Phase 2 – by the Accredited Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities of the Philippines (AACCUP).

The three-day blended online activity commenced on November 14, 2023 with an opening program at the ASEANA Hall of the PSU Golden Lion Hotel and via the Zoom platform.

University President Dr. Elbert M. Galas, represented by Vice-President Jenelyn Oboza of the Quality Assurance Division, thanked the accreditors who are considered as strong partners in providing quality education for the nation’s future leaders and for sharing their time and expertise to help PSU continually achieve greater heights.

“Quality is the core of any organization to gain reputation and credibility from the local and international community. Recognition from various accrediting and certifying bodies and agencies, provides a better opportunity for organizations to prove their worth and claim of excellence. Accreditation process assures community that university goals are appropriate and accomplished. Thank you for joining us in making PSU a relevant and responsive institution,” Dr. Galas said.

University Vice-Presidents of PSU representing the five Divisions gave full support, to include: Dr. Manolito C. Manuel for Academic and Student Affairs (OVPASA); Dr. Razeale Resultay represented by Dr. Joseph Campit for Research, Extension, Innovation and Gender and Development (REIGn) and Prof. Celeste Tamondong for Local and International Affairs (VPLIA ); Dr. Jenelyn Oboza for QA and former President and now Vice-President for Administration and Finance Management Dr. Dexter R. Buted.

For the first survey of SAS, Team Leader Engr. Grisom Gines of the Bataan Peninsula State University said being a pioneer accreditor for Management Engineering makes him happy. He was joined by team members Dr. Rolito Mahaguay from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and Prof. Morena Carlos from Cebu Technological University.

“PSU, in its quest for quality, ay hindi matatawaran. I am happy that management engineering was subjected to accreditation. PSU has always been a very good and excellent institution and we are happy for its continuous improvement,” Engr. Gines said.

Moreover, the virtual survey visit for Sta. Maria Campus headed by the over-all coordinator Dr. Luis Amano of the Bicol University outlined the guidelines and criteria for accreditation based on CMO No.1, series of 2015.

“In line with university’s quest for excellence, the team will assess and evaluate programs the university is offering… Based on the visual presentation you have shown us, PSU has attained the criteria,” Dr. Amano said.

Joining Dr. Amano as AACCUP accreditors are: Dr. Agnes Perey (TAU) and Dr. Manuel Gacutan (VSU) for the BS Agriculture program; the trio of Dr. Divinagracia De Guzman (Nueva Vizcaya SU ), Dr. Divina Yango (BSU) and Dr. Liza Tamargo (IFSU) for BEED; and the tandem of Prof. Karen Andres (PRMSU) and Engr. Rommel Nuestro (LSPU) for the BSAB program.

The PSU local counterparts were committees from Sta. Maria Campus headed by Campus Executive Director Dr. Honorio L. Cascolan and the team for SAS led by Executive Director Dr. Paulo V. Cenas.
Breakout sessions ensued after the opening ceremony to give the accreditors ample time to ask questions and conduct an in-depth evaluation and validation of the programs. Closing ceremony is scheduled on Friday, November 17.
