Program Overview
The Doctor of Philosophy in Language Education – English offered by the School of Advanced Studies of Pangasinan State University is a terminal academic program designed to produce highly competent, research-oriented, and globally attuned leaders in English language education. Anchored in CHED Memorandum Order No. 15, s. 2019 and aligned with the imperatives of Education 4.0, the program fosters the highest level of expertise in the field through a balanced integration of advanced theoretical knowledge, innovative pedagogical practice, and rigorous scholarly inquiry.
The program engages doctoral candidates in intensive study of language education’s linguistic, methodological, socio-cultural, and policy dimensions. Through advanced coursework, students examine contemporary and classical theories in linguistics and language pedagogy, explore evidence-based teaching methodologies, and analyze current trends, issues, and challenges in bilingual and multicultural education. Research remains the central pillar of the program, enabling candidates to develop and refine the skills necessary to conceptualize, implement, and disseminate scholarly works that address complex problems in language teaching and learning at local, national, and international levels.
Graduates of the program are expected to produce significant, original contributions to the body of knowledge in language education.
