PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Doctor of Education (EdD) in the School of Advanced Studies is a graduate degree program that enhances and builds upon the knowledge, values and skills obtained from a graduate teacher education program. At the doctorate level, the program aims to develop students who have :
- an expert level of theoretical knowledge in a specific subject area in education;
- the competence and motivation to draw from expert-level knowledge to understand and solve different problems related to their area of specialization in education, and
- the competence to undertake advanced independent research in an area of specialization in education.

Specialization Courses (21 Units)
DM 311 | Discrete Structures (3) | This course is designed to provide students of computer science and mathematics with several topics and ideas that will help them to develop and analyze algorithms as well as enable them to think about and solve problems in new ways. By the completion of the course students should be able to express ideas using mathematical notation and solve problems using the tools of mathematical analysis |
DM 312 | Modern Geometries (3) | This course aims to go beyond Euclidean geometry. It exposes the students to other types of geometries. This course encourages the students to extend geometric concepts that have been previously learned in the earlier courses. The use of graphing calculators and computer algebra systems in highly encouraged. |
DM 313 | Mathematical Packages (3) | This course provides an overview of the mathematics curriculum, mathematics framework which centers on problem solving and approach to teaching, learning and assessment from primary to secondary level. |
DM 314 | Matrix Theory (3) | This course provides a solid foundation in the basic concepts of matrix theory and linear algebra. Topics covered: vectors in Rn, system of linear equations, matrices, linear transformations, subspaces, determinants, eigenvalues and eigenvectors. |
DM 315 | Complex Analysis (3) | This is a three unit course that deals with complex numbers; functions of complex numbers; analytic functions; elementary functions; counter integrals. |
DM 316 | Real Analysis (3) | This course deals with properties of real numbers; integral of the step function; Libesque Integral; convergence theorem; measurement functions and measurable sets. |
DM 317 | Advance Calculus (3) | This is a three unit course that deals with various sub-theories, including vector analysis, infinite series and special functions have in common a dependency on the fundamental notions of calculus. |
Electives (9 Units)
DM 318 | Multivariate Analysis (3) | The course deals with multivariate random variables and multivariate techniques in general. |
DM 319 | Galois Theory (3) | This three unit course deals with field theory and extension, splitting field, algebraic closure, computing Galois group and the application of Galois theory and transcendental extensions. |
DM 320 | Linear Models (3) | This course deals with statistical inference for the general linear model, fixed, random effect and mixed models, linear least squares problem. |
DM 321 | Mathematical Investigation (3) | This course is designed to equip math teachers with techniques and how to guide students develop math projects both written and oral forms of communication. In this course, students will be expert to explore mathematical concepts, determine and collect conjectures and present logical and valid arguments for mathematical assertions. It emphasizes that mathematics is a dynamic and growing body of knowledge and processes. |
