PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Doctor of Education (EdD) in the School of Advanced Studies  is a graduate degree program that enhances and builds upon the knowledge, values  and skills obtained from a graduate teacher education program. At the doctorate level, the program aims to develop students who have :

  1. an expert level of theoretical knowledge in a specific subject area in education;
  2. the competence and motivation to draw from expert-level knowledge to understand and solve different problems related to their area of specialization in education, and
  3. the competence to undertake advanced independent research in an area of specialization in education.

EDM 312 Financing Educational Systems (3) The course covers the theory and principles of financing educational system in the macro and micro level standing with the guiding philosophy and policy in   terms   of   burden   of   financing, external and internal sourcing of finances, the budget cycle and fiscal and audit accountability.
EDM 313 Human Resource Development in Education (3) Analysis of current trends, problems, and issues related to policies, standards, processes, strategies, and evaluation of pre-service and in-service human resource development in education, in the context of the emerging social, political and economic realities.
EDM 314 Dynamics and Ecology of Educational Management (3) Analysis of the impact of education to the social economic and political life of the Filipino society and its implications to ecology, development and progress.
EDM 315 Educational Innovations and Technology (3) An exploration of the introduction, utilization, latest development, practices, problems and issues, and prospects of innovation and technology in the educational delivery system as these relate to the individual, social, cultural and environmental factors.
EDM 316 Management Communication System (3) The latest and emerging developments   in   the social, scientific and technological aspects of managerial Communication systems, its processes and strategies how these are utilized for the attainment of efficiency   operations and the effective attainment of objectives and goals.
EDM 317 Comparative Educational Management Systems (3) A comparative analysis of selected Asian, American, and European educational management systems in relation to the development of a more effective and efficient, personnel, organizational and managerial systems.

EDM 333 Policy Process and Analysis (3) The ecology of policy formulation in terms of the survival and development of the organization and how it affects its people and clientele as to whether pre-determined goals and objectives are attained.

EDF 301 Research Trends, History and Philosophy of Math (3) Cognitive treatment of the history of Mathematics; the philosophy underlying the teaching of advanced trusts of research in Mathematics and Mathematics education.
EDF 302 Problem Solving and Procedures in Mathematics (3) This course introduces the different types and levels of problem solving and various strategies for investigations. Some fundamental tactics in solving are also discussed. Techniques such as looking for a pattern, working backwards, solving simple problem, parity, pigeonhole principle, mathematical induction and symmetry. The use of calculators and computer algebra system is highly encouraged.

DM 311 Discrete Structures (3) This course is designed to provide students of computer science and mathematics with several topics and ideas that will help them to develop and analyze algorithms as well as enable them to think about and solve problems in new ways. By the completion of the course students should be able to express ideas using mathematical notation and solve problems using the tools of mathematical analysis
DM 312 Modern Geometries (3) This course aims to go beyond Euclidean geometry. It exposes the students to other types of geometries. This course encourages the students to extend geometric concepts that have been previously learned in the earlier courses. The use of graphing calculators and computer algebra systems in highly encouraged.
DM 313 Mathematical Packages (3) This course provides an overview of the mathematics curriculum, mathematics framework which centers on problem solving and approach to teaching, learning and assessment from primary to secondary level.
DM 314 Matrix Theory (3) This course provides a solid foundation in the basic concepts of matrix theory and linear algebra. Topics covered: vectors in Rn, system of linear equations, matrices, linear transformations, subspaces, determinants, eigenvalues and eigenvectors.
DM 315 Complex Analysis (3) This is a three unit course that deals with complex numbers; functions of complex numbers; analytic functions; elementary functions; counter integrals.
DM 316 Real Analysis (3) This course deals with properties of real numbers; integral of the step function; Libesque Integral; convergence theorem; measurement functions and measurable sets.
DM 317 Advance Calculus (3) This is a three unit course that deals with various sub-theories, including vector analysis, infinite series and special functions have in common a dependency on the fundamental notions of calculus.

DM 318 Multivariate Analysis (3) The course deals with multivariate random variables and multivariate techniques in general.
DM 319 Galois Theory (3) This three unit course deals with field theory and extension, splitting field, algebraic closure, computing Galois group and the application of Galois theory and transcendental extensions.
DM 320 Linear Models (3) This course deals with statistical inference for the general linear model, fixed, random effect and mixed models, linear least squares problem.
DM 321 Mathematical Investigation (3) This course is designed to equip math teachers with techniques and how to guide students develop math projects both written and oral forms of communication. In this course, students will be expert to explore mathematical concepts, determine and collect conjectures and present logical and valid arguments for mathematical assertions. It emphasizes that mathematics is a dynamic and growing body of knowledge and processes.
